Zebro's Old Rembrandt

The Zebro's story begins in the small town of Caledon in the Western Cape during the early 1990's, where customers could be found queuing for a very certain and specific chicken product. The unique product was chicken portions, prepared in the traditional South African method of braai, using wood coals to cook the product. This braai chicken product was enhanced by basting it with a secret family basting and marinade sauce. Preparing chicken in this traditional way and adding to it the unique basting sauce was clearly a winning combination, as a successful businessman also living in Caledon, John Hickman, decide to approach the owner of the store with the idea of duplicating this concept. They decided to open the first shop in Station Street, Parow, Western Cape in November 2001. Fast track to earlier this year, where after much negotiations, Taste Holdings, acquires the Zebros brand. This allows potential and existing Taste franchisees another investment opportunity with low start-up costs aimed at the lower income segment and follows Taste's stated strategy for acquiring businesses with a significant overlap to its existing vertical integration capacity in manufacturing and distribution and is complementary to its existing Fish Chip Co. brand. Our core menu includes chicken on the bone, chicken burgers, Russian-style sausages, fresh-cut chips and assorted salads with the simplicity resulting in the lowest new-store establishment costs for its category as well as simplified in-store operations. Its pricing is aimed at lower income consumers and represents unbelievable value for money, similar to The Fish & Chip Co. Zebro's have become well known for premium quality chicken and chips with a generous serving of sauce on top, at an affordable price which represents great value for money. Our meals are available either as a take away or eat in meal.
