YouTurn Halfway House

YouTurn is a halfway house, or tertiary treatment facility. The qualifying criteria for entering a
halfway house is that a client has to have completed a primary treatment programme and has
to have a stabilized recovery.
Halfway houses are intented to create a supportive environment and a similar sense of routine
that is created in primary treatment. It is however a stepping stone between “lock-down”
primary treatment and a full return to an independent, productive life of sobriety.
The reason why Halfway Houses are so successful at doubling a clients’ prognosis of
remaining clean is that they create a sense of community and camaraderie in early recovery.
Everybody in the group has arrived from rehab and often face the same problems and
challenges. We find that clients tend to feel less isolated and overwhelmed by early life in
recovery when they are doing so with a group of people who are all striving to start life anew.
While most people who have completed primary treatment feel sincerely motivated, and
promise to follow all the suggestions, people who do this together as a group, find it easier
and far more fun to achieve and maintain.
