Village Care/ Aged Centre

The project was opened as a Children's Home in 1979 under the name Kid Shelter. In 1999, the children's home was relocated to Langa and the Lavender Hill Facility was used as a drop in Centre for community children. The centre provided feeding and educational programmes, as well as preventative and diversion programmes. These prog rammes aim to keep children away from crime, drugs and street life and in a safe and nurturing environment.

In 2003 a building on the premises was renovated and assigned as a 'safehouse' for emergency placements of children of up to 48 hours. Between January and July 2005, this building was used to accommodate girls from the Cape Town streets. We have successful foster care placements, Job creation - Sewing programme, effective lifeskills programme, 48- hour emergency placement of safety and other activities.
