Umthatha Word Festival

The Umtata Word Festival is an annual event that aims to serve the untapped target market in the Eastern Cape. We exist to recognize and affirm talent in the province by celebrating and showcasing them on our stage.

UWF is a vibrant spoken word festival that seeks to decolonize art and expression by giving a platform to artists who perform in their home language.

The annual event offers spoken word sessions, music performances, talks on creativity, blogging, creative workshops, film screenings, an exhibition, book launches, and all the mediums an artist can use to get their work out there.

Entrance to all events are free, with lunch, prepared by our local chef, sold on the day!
