Umkumbe Safari Lodge

Umkumbe Safari Lodge is a quaint, family owned and managed, rustic bush lodge situated on the picturesque bank of the Sand River. It is situated in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve renoun for its up-close encounters with all of the Big 5, specifically leopard. The year-round flowing river ensures that excellent game and bird viewing is possible from all areas in the lodge from the infinity pool to the veranda of your room and even the gym! Rooms are simply but tastefully furnished, with luxury and family suites available. We welcome the warmth that families with young children bring.

Two safaris are offered per day – a morning and a night drive, both of which are complimented by refreshments during a stop in a scenic part of the reserve. Our vehicles are open, Land Rover Game Viewers. We have purposefully removed the doors, allowing for the unique opportunity of having all species of wildlife, big and small, literally at your feet. Guests are also encouraged to jump on the “Tracker Seat” for morning drives. Alternately bush walks are also offered, although if you do not feel like you’ll be up for 3hours of walking through the wilderness, we will happily accommodate you with a short bush walk with one of our highly experienced guides after breakfast.
Hearty, traditional South African meals are consistently on the menu with three meals a day keeping you well fed. A buffet and large bonfire in the middle of the boma sets the earthy, African atmosphere at dinner time with tables surrounding its glow.

The only music to our ears is the choir of painted reed frogs, crickets, nightjars, hyena and lion. If you have champagne taste on a beer budget, prefer spas to dancing in the rain and stilettos to flip flops, we are not the lodge for you. We pride ourselves on offering a personal, memorable experience in an easygoing, friendly, fun environment and atmosphere.
