Thyspunt Alliance

Thyspunt is situated in the Eastern Cape of South Africa approximately:
20km west of Jeffreys Bay
11km west of St. Francis Bay
10km west of Cape St. Francis
5 km east of Oyster Bay
ESKOM is currently busy with an Environmental Impact Assessment process for the construction of a 4 000 mega watt Nuclear Power Station and related infrastructure. It is clear from the Executive Summary of the Draft Environmental Impact Assessment that Thyspunt is the preferred site, this in spite of the fact that most of the studies indicates that the Thyspunt site is the least desirable for a construction of this nature.

The Thyspunt Alliance can best be described as an alliance of like-minded parties who share the same concerns.

In order to achieve our aims we have established the Thyspunt War Chest under the auspices of the St Francis Residents Association to raise funds for a possible legal challenge. We have retained the services of an environmental lawyer, Mr Cormac Cullinan from Cullinan and Associates to act on our behalf.
