THOKOMALA, which means “warmth” or “care” in isiZulu, aims to provide a holistic child care solution to positively impact the lives of vulnerable children so that they have hope of a BRIGHTER FUTURE.
The vision is for the THOKOMALA children to grow into balanced, skilled and well- adjusted adults who successfully integrate into the formal economy and society.
Our focus areas are care – providing a loving, nurturing home; education – enabling access to suitable schools, tertiary institutions, mentoring and skills training; and lastly sustainable livelihoods and employment.
We purchase, renovate and furnish houses in the communities, and cover the ongoing operating costs. A social worker is assigned to each home to assist the house mother and for psycho social support of the children.
