The Rotary Club of Potchefstroom Mooi

Ray Dugmore, Friedel Woltge and AAP Henning chartered the Rotary Club of Potchefstroom Mooi in May, 1987 with 21 members. Reason being that many Rotarians were unable to attend the daytime meetings of the Potchefstroom Rotary Club at the time, and therefore decided to charter a new club that could cater for those current and aspiring Rotarians who preferred to meet in the evenings.

The first meetings were held at the Juicy Lucy in the old Checkers Centre and were later moved to the Potchefstroom golf clubhouse.

In 2000 the club negotiated with the municipality for the hire of the Old Fire Station (built in 1912) which was in danger of being demolished. The building was renovated and the original copper bar counter was donated by the Dros franchise in Klerksdorp and fitted by club members. The fireman’s pole remains in the club, together with some commemorative fireman’s hats, one of which belonged to the grandfather of PHF Jolaine Ford (neé Hattingh).

The club remained staunchly a mens only club until 2005 when ladies were finally allowed to be inducted as Rotarians. Our first female President, Chandré Pretorius, led the club in RY 2014/2015.

2nd Tuesday – Business Meeting
3rd Tuesday – Social Meeting
4th Tuesday – Speaker’s Evening / Rotary Training
5th Tuesday – Social with the Rotary Anns
