The Mile High

The Mile High by Carlton Dry brings the best male and female freestyle snowboarders in the world to Perisher each year. In 2016 there were 110 international professional slopestyle snowboarders competing against 10 of Australia’s best. The riders and their support teams base themselves in the town of Jindabyne to train for the upcoming Northern Hemisphere winter and in preparation for the 2018 Winter Olympics Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

The 2016 Mile High by Carlton Dry sees competitors entered from every snowboarding nation in the world and reflects the importance that this competition plays in the long lead-up to the 2018 Winter Olympics. This year there is an increased presence of Asian freestyle competitors, including teams from China, Japan and Korea, who are competing against the USA, Candadian, Norwegian and Australian slopestyle teams.

The Mile High by Carlton Dry’s WST International Level grading means that the WST points on offer are the highest outside of the major Elite Level competitions in the Northern Hemisphere.

Aiming to find the best all-round slopestyle snowboarders, The 2016 Mile High featured a separate line of four different types of jumps, and a line of several different rails. Each male and female competitor has two judged runs on the jump line, and two on the rail line - and the best score from each line is combined to determine the placings.
