The Local Motive

The Local Motive is a multifaceted business operation which strives to work within a local context to help develop and advise on sustainable solutions to combating malnutrition and poverty in South Africa's rural areas.

Our team has been working towards creating a dynamic and ecologically based natural resource management systems which we hope will help to diversify and sustain the social, economic and environmental benefits of Moringa cultivation and permaculture farming systems.

We are currently growing and selling a wide range of organic vegetables and also supply a variety of other products such as salad packs, honey, Moringa leaf powder, basil pesto, hummus, nuts & seeds.
We are also in the process of designing and facilitating permaculture design and urban landscaping courses.

The core vision for The Local Motive is to raise awareness of the many uses and benefits of growing and consuming Moringa among struggling rural communities and to promote the development of viable and sustainable "Moringa Food Forests" as well as a localised Moringa processing industry in the Eastern Cape.

The Local Motive team have embarked upon a journey to develop what we believe to be a realistic and effective approach in bringing about genuine rural transformation in South Africa. We therefore strive to share our understanding with the wider South African community as to how we as a nation can contribute towards developing a true sense environmental consciousness as well as promote nutritional autonomy in struggling rural communities.

The Local Motive has already been involved in the implementation of various pilot Moringa projects in the Eastern Cape and Transkei region. We have planted Moringa saplings in a few gardens and have also begun educating locals about Moringa in the hopes of directing community members toward this movement.

Our mission is to raise levels of knowledge and awareness about Moringa in rural areas and to make "The Miracle Tree" available for struggling small-holder farmers.

By engaging in traditional community beliefs and values, and incorporating our knowledge on Moringa and permaculture, we hope to develop a sustainable and longstanding means for us as South Africans to live healthily and holistically in the hopes of building a vibrant and prosperous future for our beautiful country.
