The 99% Local Festival

The 99% Local Festival is a collaborative effort to ignite the grassroots development of burgeoning co-operative community initiatives and organic/natural projects and programs developing in and around Johannesburg. The festival aims to draw on a variety of role-players to add value to the event whilst maintaining a social directive towards the initiative.

The festival intends to create a base for itself at the Skills Village in Bertrams, Johannesburg (a co-operatively run precinct with a focus on event planning and management) where it would operate from on festival dates combining a range social programs and cultural activities - (a craft and food market, workshops, drama, dance, art exhibitions, quality local music and educational talks) - with a large focus on promoting musicians and providing a platform for the talented unsigned and independents.

The proposed festival will benefit the venue, the activators and the community, with the potential to initiate at various other venues and duplicate the model in various regions through the co-operative business incubator model.

The festival wishes to promote and support the structures, ideals and business ethics the Skills Village has developed under and aims to be the example to the industry that transformation is possible with the correct support, guidance and resources made accessible. Skills village will make available these opportunities to members and participants via the numerous private and public partnerships, and various stakeholders and accreditation bodies.
