Teyateyaneng is a town located in the district of Berea in Lesotho. Usually abbreviated to T.Y., Teya-Teyaneng means 'place of quick sands'. Teyateyaneng is also the camptown for the district of Berea. In 2005 it had a population of 75,115.GeographyTeyateyaneng is located about 40 kilometers north of the national capital of Maseru on the Main North One, a road that runs parallel to the South African border leading to the north. The city is situated on a high plateau at about 1600 meters altitude.HistoryTeyateyaneng was founded in 1886 as the capital of Berea by then Chief Masupha. The 1986 centennial was celebrated with sports tournaments and handing out of sponsored T-shirts to participants.EconomyTeyateyaneng has several retail businesses and carpet-producing factories.SportsFootballThe Lioli FC is a football club based in Teyateyaneng. In 1985 the team won the national championship for the first time and again in 2009, it is now the Lesotho ground puller. In 2007 it won the Imperial Top 8 cup. Lioli FC are the Lesotho soccer champions of 2015 with the players Congo, Manqane, Ntate Masualle and Shabba.CricketLeokaoke Lebona is the first and only spinner, he starred in the first cricket team to win internationally. They defeated Bails cricket by 129 runs. Vampires reached 192/4 and Bails only managed 62 (all out). Lebona was named man of the match with 75 runs and taking 4 wickets for 14 runs. Captain Lemphane scored 98, close to his ton. LP were the runners-up.
