St John’s College, Mthatha

We are an established Mathematics and Physical Sciences Centre of Excellence (refer to the website CPSI 2011 AWARDS FINALISTS), furthermore, we have several awards at the Provincial and National levels since 2002.

This status has led to a high demand of new applicants ranging from our entry points, grade 8-10. At the moment we are in short of a maximum of 10 classrooms to be able to balance a learner-teacher ratio, for instance, we are currently having a grade 10 class of 134 learners due to shortage of classrooms.

The teaching staff is made up of 71 educators, 27 of them are of African origin handling the so called ‘killer subjects’ viz: Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Life Sciences. In the same breath, we have 3 educators who are of Indian origin serving in the field of Sciences. Geographically we are situated in a previously disadvantaged area in Mthatha.
