More about SpiceMecca

Company Profile

The passion for the flavours of the East inspired the concept of SpiceMecca. In 1994 Shreef Abass launched SpiceMecca, a spice and ancillaries business, with the vision of selling conveniently blended, pure ground spices to the public. This vision with a purpose, which forms part of SpiceMecca’s business philosophy, founded on the principles of professionalism, quality, productivity and a generous measure of optimism, has catapulted
SpiceMecca into the big league. Over the next sixteen years, SpiceMecca has acquired a rather intuitive relationship with spice becoming the most visible icon of great taste and a healthy lifestyle.

SpiceMecca is expanding its operations and gearing itself to become a national company of choice through a competitive supply chain and the manufacture of convenient and ‘Cook Easy’ products.

SpiceMecca employs over 70 skilled and semi-skilled staff boasting a management talent pool consisting of University Masters and Honours graduates from top class universities.

Product and Service

Spice Mecca sources its products worldwide to create its well known range of freshly ground spice blends such as BBQ, Chicken Braai, BBQ Garlic and Lemon, curries, herbs and whole spices. These are available in sizes ranging from 6g to 1kg catering for all customer preferences. Furthermore, it distributes a large variety of fresh dates, rice, legumes, syrups and flour.

Distribution and Procurement

Spice Mecca manufactures and distributes from state of the art facilities with the highest food safety standards for South African and overseas retail sectors. The sales, merchandising and distribution of SpiceMecca’s products, throughout the Western Cape, is managed in-house. The SpiceMecca brand is now available nationally and surrounding SADEC countries. This would include well-established retailers such as Pick ‘n Pay, Shoprite/Checkers, Spar, Fruit ‘n Veg etc.

SpiceMecca has a procurement policy of importing products directly from countries such as Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria. Furthermore, it procures its foodstuffs (rice, legumes, dates and flour) directly from India, Pakistan and Malaysia.

SpiceMecca in its quest to compete internationally and be cutting edge in the spice and food industry frequently visits international trade expos, such as SIAL Paris, Gulfood Dubai, the New York Fancy Food Show, and Anuga Cologne.

Promotion

Spice Mecca ensures constant contact with its customers through advertising on radio, national television, in-store product tastings and sponsorship of community events.
