Sowiso Foundation

SOWISO Foundation started in 2014 in a garage at Brackendowns with twelve grade 8 (wise) leaners from Fumana High school attending Sowiso Saturday Scholar program. Through Sowiso Feeding Scheme Program learners are provided with breakfast and lunch. Classes start at 8h30 in the morning until 15h30 in the afternoon. Wise 8 learners were taught Math’s, Natural Science, Economic Management Science and English. Learners were transported from Fumana High School in Katlehong township to Brackendowns for Saturday Classes.

Through partnership with CLAWS Institute learners were also taught additional modules that focus on Citizenship, Leadership and Self-science. In essence CLAWS Institute was teaching learners an in-house developed Life Orientation Subject.

The foundation has since grown in terms of learners’ registration from 12 to 94 in 2016. In addition, the number of schools who are participating in the program has increased from one to four. We have two schools from Katlehong township: Fumana High School and Lethukuthula High School. And In Thokoza township, Buhlebuzile High School and Thabo Ntsako High School participating in the program.

Step growth is critical for SOWISO Foundation in its quest to achieve its strategic intent which is to rewire the mindset of the learners.
