WHAT IS aikido
Aikido is a Japanese art developed by Morihei Ueshiba (o sensei –Great Teacher).
Aikido is a martial art on a purely physical level wish involves some throws and joint locks, painful nerve pressure points. The aim is not to kill an opponent; instead aikido teaches you how to resolve conflict as safe and peaceful as possible.
Aikido focus not on kicking and punching the opponents, but rather on using their own energy to gain control of them or throw them away from you. Or on the ground or held the opponent in a painful lock. It emphasizes on motion and the dynamics of movement using the attacker’s energy instead of inflicting harm.
Aikido is more than a physical art, its unique blend of mental training emphasize centring, grounding, blending with conflict, relaxation, timing, intuition, and energy flow.
Aikido is a powerful method of self protection and can be studied by any man, women, child and even disable people. Police force and the security forces

The aim of South Coast Shiho dojo
WE aim to make this self- defence art where a member of the dojo will be enable to defend him/herself against common attack situations we find ourselves in, in the street, home ,school and work place.





Training
A) First off all we will teach you how to be more in touch with your inner self by meditation and energy balancing
In control of yourself
To keep calm
Disciplined (children)
How to avoid dangerous situations and or confrontations
To be more aware of your surroundings
Observation at home in your car or in the streets

Students is build on the values of life and we teach them

-To be kind, benevolence, compassionate and generous towards all humans in walk of life.

B) FITNESS
Fitness plays a big role in maintaining a healthy mind, body and soul.
Physical training goals pursued in conjunction with aikido include controlled relaxation, flexibility, and endurance, with less emphasis on strength training. In aikido, pushing or extending movements are much more common than pulling or contracting movements.
Aikido training involve a great deal of the graduation of a student
In the witness training students do body exercises
Push up’s, sit up’s, stretchers, Chinese sit up’s ext.
Break falls involved how to fall not to hurt you’re self
Front, back and side rolls.

C) Technique’s
Training start with 8 basic techniques of different arm and body grabs and students learn how to apply the correct techniques to detain the opponent in the attacked situation
After a student had learn how to apply the basic techniques he/she will go to a next level of self defence techniques.
Randori – a student learn to defend him/her self when 3 or more people attacks.

D) WEAPANS
In life each dangerous situation differs from one another, therefore we develop your abilities to adapt to all types of situations
Each student will be trained how to disarm a attacker from handguns, rifles, knifes, machetes and other weapons, we will not only teach students how to disarm weapons but how to use them as well.
Students get additional training in:
Bow, short stick, sword, nun chuck, knife.

E) OTHER TRAINING
- Anti – hijacking
-anti rape
-Asp baton
-knife fighting

TEST
We have test sessions for the students that joint the club as a member to grade belt levels
The sessions are two times per year
This test is to see whether a member made progress and whether he/she is ready to move to the next level
One session is done in the club in June and the second one is done at a October camp grading.
What is tested:
Sessions are 2 ours each
First session tested on stamina, brake falls and rolls.
The second session you get tested on applying the learned techniques and your brake falls during the techniques.
Your behaviour throughout the practice sessions and time the students have spent in the dojo is part of the grading.
Levels of grading:
Juniors up to 16 years – seniors from 16 years+
Starting – white once
Yellow – 3x - once
Orange – 3x – once

Green – 3x - once
Blue – 3x – once
Purple 3x – 3x
Brown 3x – 3x
Black - once only on a grading camp
No persons younger than 18 years old will receive a senior black grading, all juniors and students under 18 will grade to junior black, they will only be able to receive senior black when they are 18 years old.
