I am an Educational Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. I practice in Somerset West in the Western Cape.
I have a passion for working with young people and with teenagers in particular as I have worked with them for my entire working life. After studying teaching and Psychology, I began my career at Constantia School for Girls, a girls' reformatory in Tokai. Here I was able to learn and to understand, first hand, how to deal with serious behavioural and emotional challenges. I have also worked at Hottentots-Holland High School and at Parel Vallei High School as a school counsellor and teacher, specialising in the teaching of life skills.
In 2003 I studied remedial teaching in order to understand how to support learners with learning barriers. However, I have always been fascinated with Psychology, human behaviour and the resilience of the human spirit and I qualified as a psychologist in 2007. Since then, I have lectured in Developmental Psychology at Helderberg College, conducted workshops in study methods, time management and career development. I have also done diversion programmes with teenagers at risk, worked in private practice and in 2013 I qualified as an addiction counsellor.
I am the proud mother of two amazing teenagers/young men and as a result of the special journey I have enjoyed with them, parenting is very close to my heart.
My areas of interest include: Assisting teenagers with learning barriers and developmental challenges, emotional, scholastic and behavioural difficulties.
I offer the following services: Psychotherapy, Psychometric assessments: psycho-scholastic, career and subject choice, Study skills, Assistance with organisation and time management, Motivation, goal-setting, self-esteem, Addiction
I believe that my work involves trying to assist each client to achieve his/her potential and to achieve healing if that is required. I embrace an eclectic approach and I tailor my sessions to each individual client's needs.
