S.G.Mafaesa High School

The school began in 1989 but it used to be held at Atlholang Primary school and Mosupatsela High School. In 1991 the building for the school was completed and the school moved to the new location, riverside, Kagiso. The school starts at grade 8 and ends at grade 12. Mathematics is a compulsory subject. From grade 10 to grade 12, seven subjects must be studied per year. When the school was established it became the first high school in Kagiso to offer standard 6 (grade 8). That year was a chaotic year for those who just passed standard 5 for there were only two schools in Kagiso which offered standard 6. Standard 6 was phased out of primary or public schools. S.G. Mafaesa was the only school in Kagiso where you can exit Matric with 7 subjects as majors. The school uniform design and colour combination was the most talked about (navy blue with red and white stripes on the collar and wrists). The school continues to have a good pass rate because of its good teaching and administrating staff as well as dedicated learners.
