Services SETA

SETA stands for Sector Education and Training Authority, organisations established in March 2000 by the Department of Labour and in November 2009 through a proclamation, the President shifted the Skills Development function from Department of Labour to the Department of Higher Education and Training, to operationalise the creation of an integrated education and training system.
There are currently 21 SETAs operational in South Africa. The main function of a SETA is to contribute to the raising of skills to bring to the employed or those wanting to be employed in their sector.
They do this by ensuring that people learn skills that are needed by the employers and communities.
There is no value in training people if they cannot use the skills they have learnt. Training and skills development is not just for young people starting their first jobs, though it is important for them too. The skills of people already in jobs must also be enhanced.

The Services SETA oversees training and development in the following sectors: beauty treatments, including nail, skin and health; funeral and related activities; men’s and ladies’ hairdressing; business consulting, including administrative and secretarial activities; general consulting, including management consulting; the CCMA and bargaining councils; call centre management; labour recruitment; marketing services, including marketing research, marketing communications and direct marketing; property management; real estate agencies, valuers and auctioneers; generic project management; mail handling and courier services; national postal activities; general cleaning; truck and plant hire; event and conference management; and quality management and related services.
