More about Servants of Seaview Baptist

Peter and Janine Cornelius are the human founders and spearheads the work supported by part time volunteers who have been added to their number.

SBC started in March 2002 by a then unmarried but engaged Peter Cornelius. With a determination that comes only from the call of God to church planting they set about to strengthen the evangelical witness in this ever growing coastal community.

Initially meeting in homes as they became available, SBC eventually started meeting in a building which used to be a Muslim Butchery. For five years they sanctified that space as they slowly grew in number and stature. Moving to two morning and one evening service it was soon apparent that another move would have to be made. Without land available for purchase and no bigger premises available to lease, the step of faith was auctioned to move to a tent opposite the old building. From here we continue to navigate the challenges presented to us with grace and mercy from God.
Peter & Janine Cornelius

Peter Cornelius is accountable to both the Baptist Union of Southern Africa and the Western Province Baptist Association. The Cornelius couple have nearly twenty years of ministerial work within communities in the Western Cape, as children’s workers, teenage youth workers and as church planters.

They both have degrees from the Cape Town Baptist Seminary and Peter is a fully accredited minister with the Baptist Union of South Africa.

Our Logo

“Waves of blessing” has been our worded logo for many years and we sort to have it reworked with ten years of existence in 2012.

Table Mountain is such an iconic feature in Cape Town that it would remiss us to ignore it in our pictorial identity. The mountain represents our challenges and sufferings, of which there are many in the communities which we serve, but at the same time serve as a platform for us to bring about Holy Spirit refreshment in ‘waves of blessing” to our surrounding constituents.

Furthermore the logo is so designed to sow doubt in the mind of the view as to whether the source of the wave is from on high or from the man. The answer is both. We are refreshed, filled and anointed from God and use His empowerment to be a blessing to Cape Town and beyond.
