More about School Of Sound

School of Sound is made up of three separate eight-week extramural courses designed to train and educate teenagers and young adults in the music industry. It is both practical and theoretical lessons, based predominantly on what I've learnt in the last 10 years – from studying sound engineering to working in the industry.

While completing my teaching degree, I spent four years working at a local school. The lessons are thus based on a teaching structure the students will be familiar with, adding further practical value. Each class will only be made up of 6-8 students, creating an intimate and personal learning experience.

By the end of each course they will be able to do basic work with bands, from recording at home to engineering live shows. With each level of experience, information on various types of gear, sound, live and recording setups will be prescribed.

Students will attend the courses once a week for eight weeks. The curriculum is predominantly for teenagers, 13yrs-18yrs old (grade 7-12). Courses run from Monday to Friday, 4pm - 5pm & 5:30pm - 6:30pm (potential for earlier and later times if required). These courses run concurrently with school terms and operates out of MARS music store in Bergvliet (Shop 4, Caversham Shopping Center, 27 Main Road, Bergvliet)

About Me
Jarred Ronnenbergh

I'm a sound engineer and technician from South Africa. I studied Sound engineering for 3 years at City Varsity, and I have been working in the industry for the past 10 years.

Over the past 10 years I have worked, either engineering their live shows or teching, for many of South Africa's biggest bands, such as Freshly ground, GoodLuck, GoldFish, Jack Parow, and fokofpolisiekar to name a few.I have also had the privilege of teching for a few big international bands such as Nofx, Underoath, Every Time I Die, Skunk Anansie, Alkaline Trio, The Hives, Alt-J, Pendulum and Funeral for a Friends, and a few others.

For the past 2 and a half years I have worked with South Africa's biggest electronic band GoodLuck as their engineer, tech and road manager. I have had the privilege of traveling the world to countries such as Netherlands, France, Norway, Switzerland, Singapore, Seychelles, Zimbabwe, and Zambia with GoodLuck playing many big and amazing shows.

I have just finished studying my B.ed degree through UNISA.

I am combining two elements I'm passionate about – the music industry and working with children – teaching and training them to work with and understand the music industry, from live to studio sound.
