Owner history

Through years of knowledge from a family line of well-known agricultural Farmers, technicians and breeders and specializing in plant husbandry through tertiary studies, working closely with the ARI and the major seed house companies the owner has built a unique experience in the arena of growing plants for production and reproduction to supplying fresh produce to the export market in the United Kingdom.

Combining over 15 years of experience of structural construction with the foundation of plant husbandry has enabled the owner to identify the growing need in the market for self-sustainability. Hence, the development of the business. The owner has successfully managed multi million Rand projects and businesses and supports the passion of the company in developing the residential market as well as the commercial sector to empower people through leadership and technical support to generate the sense of self sufficiency and achievement.


What we do

We build greenhouses for the residential market to give the home owner the opportunity to produce organic vegetables, herbs and spices for his own kitchen and save money by reducing their grocery bill. Professional agricultural advice is available on the growth proses to produce healthy plants for your kitchen or local market.

Through identifying the need for living healthy and economically by becoming more self-sufficient we have selected various greenhouses from a basic design to commercially professional and economically viable units to supply the basis of growing vegetables, herbs and spices as well as fruits by the client. There are many aspects of gardening and greenhouse gardening, therefore we also manufacture and install planter boxes, decks with planter boxes, hanging herb baskets and square foot gardening frames. Our Greenhouse manufacturer can also install irrigation systems, hydro phonics and aqua phonics for Greenhouses should you require them.

We also build Wendy houses for customers who require the extra storage units or for whichever reason the customer desires.

Due to the water shortage in South Africa we also install rainwater harvesting or grey water recycling systems to assist the customer with remaining within the water restrictions and still be able to irrigate their vegetables, plants or grass.

2. Products & Services

Net-houses Quonset Style

Advantages of Net-house: Natural wind pollination, Protection from birds and some
insects, rainwater can irrigate, enough shade and sun for growth.

The net used in this simple design provides 40% shade. We build the net-houses with a wooden base and pull the net over pvc piping. They are strong enough to endure harsh
winds but a wind breaker or an anchor is preferred should your net-house be erected in an open space. The price includes compost and bonemeal.

We have 3 sizes available:

1.8m L x 1.2m W x 0.8m H @ R2900
2.4m L x 1.2m W x 1.2m H @ R3500
2.5m L x 2.3m W x 1.6m H @ R5200 (if a zip door is included then the price is R5500)

Pricing remain as such should there be no surface area preparation required I.e. soil is ready for planting. Prices may vary should the surface area require preparation like removal of grass, stones, plants, building a deck, adding planter boxes or square foot frames etc. Large construction like building a deck, removing of boulders etc will be subcontracted to Off Grid Systems Pty Ltd.

Advantages of a greenhouse: Not limited to seasonal planting due to climate control/manipulation. UV protection and even heat distribution. Protection from birds and insects.

Greenhouses are designed and manufactured to your needs, taking into consideration the wind, weather and land area. Prices are therefore not included in this section.

Organic Seeds

Organic seeds can be sourced from external sources or can be directly ordered from www.thegravelgarden.co.za or www.livingseeds.co.za

Organic/Heirloom seeds are preferable to other seeds as it will reproduce it's own seed, making it more cost efficient for long term self-sufficient gardening or farming.

Planter Boxes, Herb Boxes and Square foot gardening frames

Planter boxes are great when you want to keep molls away or for herbs or any other form of gardening where you don’t want to get down and dirty in your garden. We can even build a deck with planter boxes directly attached to your deck on steep slopes. Herb boxes are created to hang from a greenhouse or a tree as herbs are often great natural pest repellent or can draw the right insects or animal life to compliment your garden or vegetables. Square foot gardening frames are an easy way to plant a lot of vegetables in a small area, making the most out of your garden. One can plant inside a greenhouse or outside but I do suggest if you plant outside to use a net covering.

Wendy houses

We build various Wendy houses available for storage units or if you need something bigger for whichever reason, we manufacture and install them to our standard sizes.

We can also build a larger wooden house by subcontracting Off Grid Systems Pty Ltd should you require a unit to live in, a barn or a workshop.

Rainwater harvesting and Grey water irrigation systems

To save water and recycle water in order to grow your crops or simply to water your plants and grass we can also install rainwater harvesting or grey water irrigation systems with proper water storage tanks, a drip irrigation system and if required a water pump which can be solar in order to save electricity or just a normal water pump.

3. Financing Available

Should you require financing, we can work through our company Off Grid Systems Pty Ltd who is a registered company with Greenfin. Greenfin will approve loans up to R250 000 for individuals or directors of companies which can be paid off in a maximum of 60 months if you have a clear credit record. They specialise in financing anything that makes the world eco-friendlier and this includes Greenhouses. Terms and conditions will apply.
