Originally a Judo dojo in Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa karate was introduced to the Renshukan by pioneering sensei Des Botes who would canvas tuition from Japanese sailors visiting South Africa.
In 1965 the dojo was among those to host the four visiting JKA instructors, sensei's Kase, Kanazawa, Enoeda, and Shiriah. Among the pioneers who trained under these sensei were:

In the 1970's/80's the Renshukan was under the auspices of sensei's Conrad Scheepers, Werner Matthe, & Clive Himsworth, who later went on to join Funokoshi SA.
The 1980's/90's the senior instructors were sensei Conrad Scheepers, Brett Halliday, Gary "Gabby" Ellis, and Andre' Theron.
Today Renshukan is represented by senseis Brett Halliday (South Africa) Arthur Speight (Northern Ireland & UK), and Gerard McCarthy (Republic of Ireland.)
The Renshukan instructs traditional shotokan karate with an emphasis on the teachings of sensei Taiji Kase, sensei's Brett, Arthur, and Gerard were all members of sensei Kase's Instructor's Academy.
