Intro

Reel Thyme Charters is an owner run Fishing Charter Company operating out of Hout Bay, Cape Town.
Our waters off Cape Point boast some of the best tuna fishing seen in the world, making this our primary target species. Our best months to target them are from October through to June.

Spoilt for choice we also have a rich inshore fishery including Yellowtail and Snoek, which make for great fun on light tackle and can also be fitted into a half-day charter.

Our boats are all equipped with top of the range electronics including plotters, radar and echo sounders.

Catching trophy tuna requires the best in tackle and that’s exactly what our boats are equipped with. Making use of both Penn International reels, Shimano Tiagra reels matched up with custom made rods we offer our clients the very best.


Tuna Fishing:

Our waters some 30 miles off Cape Point boast some of the best tuna fishing seen in the world making this our primary target species. Our best months to target them are from October through to June. The main target species are Longfin Tuna (Thunnus alalunga), Yellowfin Tuna (Thunnus albacares) and Big Eye Tuna (Thunnus albacares).

A variety of techniques are used to catch our tuna, which include trolling, baiting, spinning and vertical jigging.

Inshore Fishing:

This fishing takes us along our coastline up to the famous Cape Point. The main target species for the day will be Yellowtail (Seriola lalandi) and Snoek (Thyrsites atun).

Both species are great fun on lighter tackle and provides the younger generation to try their hand at fishing in Cape Town.

Techniques used while fishing inshore include trolling, sight fishing, baiting and vertical jigging.

Fly Fishing:

All our main target species can be caught on fly….Yellowtail can be targeted using a 9 weight outfit and choosing between dredging a fly or using a surface popper for the exciting bite.

Tuna are targeted using 15 weight outfits and mostly caught on “chum” fly’s


Spearfishing:

The adrenalin of being in the water with large Yellowfin tuna swimming around you in the chum is something all spearo’s wish to experience. Having speared many of them we have the technique down to a fine art as well as all the correct equipment onboard to ensure the best possible chance of landing one of these beasts.

Spearfishing trips are also available off Cape Point with the main target species being Yellowtail

Team building days:

There’s nothing like a day on the water to level the playing fields in the corporate environment. These days are designed around the specific needs of the group which can include internal fun days or inviting a selection of your clients and even setting up small competitions across a few boats to add to the fun of the day.

This is a really unique way to spend the day with either your management team or your top clients.


Bird watching:

A wide variety of sea birds are on offer to be seen close up in the tuna grounds.
