About us:

Dr James Vlok - heads the PECHI and is qualified with a Masters Degree in Chiropractic from the Durban University of Technology in 2005. In addition he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Physiology from the University of Stellenbosch in 1997. He has completed post graduate courses in paediatrics, fascial release and kinesiotaping. He currently runs a general chiropractic practice with emphasis on biomechanical correction through spinal and extremity manipulation, and myofascial release with dry needling, trigger point therapy and kinesiotaping. The focus of his practice is proper diagnostics and especially patient management through correct treatment protocols and referrals.

Dr Berno Stander - studied at the Durban University of Technology where he obtained a Masters Degree in Chiropractic in 2014. Further studies included a Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics from the University of the Free State in 2006. He also completed a post graduate course in Nero-Proprioceptive taping. He is currently working at a multidisciplinary chiropractic practice which incorporates chiropractic specific manipulation of the spine and extremities to correct aberrant biomechanical function, with adjunct therapies including myofascial release with dry needling, kinesiotaping and trigger point therapy. In this practice, proper patient care through correct diagnostic assessment, treatment protocols and referrals are the standard.

Kerry Hains - completed a certificate in both Therapeutic and Sports Massage at the New Zealand College of Massage in 2005. After working for a number of years in Auckland New Zealand she returned home to Port Elizabeth in 2010. Her passion and expertise lie in Sports Massage where she has built up an established business, working with both athletes in a practice environment as well as at sporting events. Her experience at the various sporting events include the Cape Epic, The Cape Pioneer and the Standard bank cycle for kids tour, to mention a few. She has also had the privilege of working with many International Teams which has included the Proteas, All Blacks, Springboks, Scotland and the visiting Super 15 teams. She is also contracted annually to Massage at the Nelson Mandela Sevens Tournament. Her passion for sports massage allows her to work with both Athletes and people from all walks of life, by sharing the benefits of massage.

Cheryl Thompson - qualified in Reflexology (treatment of the feet) and Massage Therapy in Port Elizabeth in 2008 and 2009 with Elza Edelson, a doyen of Alternative Therapies. Cheryl has worked within a variety of practices in Port Elizabeth, from Endomology Clinics to one of the renowned Chiropractic practices in Port Elizabeth, as well as running her own business from home where she worked predominately with disabled clients. She’s trained in Aromatherapy, working with essential oils which aid in healing and relaxation, as well as trigger point and meridian massage. Cheryl has counselling experience and is able to connect to clients on a deeper level.

Carol Rickards - has been teaching Pilates since 2007 after completing her National Certificate in Fitness with a Pilates specialization through the Exercise Teachers Academy. She has had an interest in fitness and health since her early twenties and had been a 5am exercise junkie for many years when a friend introduced her to Pilates. She was hooked from day one, finding it the perfect relief from a very stressful, pressured job in advertising. Since moving to PE in 2010 Carol has been attending regular Stott Pilates workshops to keep her knowledge up to date, and has recently resat her certification through Stott Pilates. (an international organization). Carol places a lot of importance on postural alignment and loves to work with clients who have postural issues as well as offering a challenging workout to stronger clients. She offers group classes during the day and evenings and private/duet classes during the day.
