Our story begins a long time ago, in a faraway land in a little town called Gattinara, Italy and with nonno Rinaldo - ‘nonno’ in Italian, means grandfather. Nonno’s love was ‘la terra’ (the soil) and the vines he grew in this iron-rich gravelly, volcanic soil, which together with the the region’s hot summers and cool late autumns and winters all helped yield the excellent Nebbiolo grapes that formed the base of the internationally renown Gattinara red wine that is still produced today and exported all over the world.
The terroir, the strong ties with our traditions, combined with the strong and genuine flavours of the sun-drenched Calabrian region in the extreme south of Italy, the home of Domenico, our chef who has married into our family – that is is what inspired us to introduce the concept of conviviality, the Italian love of good food in good company, not forgetting good wine, in an unpretentious, comfortable environment - that of a trattoria.
Italians enjoy eating in a trattoria, because it so typically reflects our mentality of eating simple, good food that requires not only top quality ingredients, but also requires passion in its preparation. It is for this reason that we combine conviviality with traditional Italian gastronomy for the purpose of introducing our guests to the pleasure of going out to eat and to discover the tastes and flavours that our country of origin has to offer.
We make our own pasta and ravioli freshly every day and recommend which pasta should be eaten with which sauce. Our traditional dishes and desserts, together with our large wine selection and accessible prices, are all conducive to spending a relaxing evening amongst friends in an informal atmosphere.
