More about Peregrine Bullets

Peregrine Bullets has been designing hunting bullets since 2009, and has achieved tremendous success in securing the most technologically advanced bullet designs, not only for hunting bullets, but also bullets for handgun and competition shooting, as well as extreme long range shooting since its inception. Peregrine Bullets was born from the desire to achieve the almost impossible: lead-free, green bullets that are velocity insensitive and offer consistent expansion (i.e. achieve terminal effect, reliable expansion and a full mushroom at velocities from as low as 1 600 f/s to as high as 3 400 f/s), all the while being effective regardless of the target aimed at. Their ability to achieve this feat has not only secured patents for their technologically advanced designs, but has also placed the Peregrine bullet at a level of excellence far above any level of performance or design offered by any competitors in the field.
Achieving heights of this nature has required a dedicated team of experts: from Adriaan, with his vast knowledge of game and hunting in both the US and Africa, to Corno, with his extensive background in artillery design, to Alliwyn, whose expertise in mechanical engineering has broadened Peregrine’s scope in the field of bullet design and Hernus Groenewald, who developed computer software to measure the in-flight characteristics of a bullet based on mathematical principles as part of his thesis at the University of Pretoria.
In addition, Peregrine makes use of only the highest quality technology and tools in the industry. Each bullet is individually machined on the world’s most advanced CN machines, such as the DMG Gildemeister. A stringent quality control process is further in place whereby bullets are checked, individually, upon completion. A bullet is manufactured every 30 seconds, and Peregrine’s machines work around the clock to keep up with the great demand for their extraordinary product.
What makes the Peregrine design so unique? The following are some of the technologically advanced designs that only Peregrine offer to the worldwide bullet market:
• The yellow copper plungers used in Peregrine’s VRG-3 (Bushmaster) and VRG-5 (Plainsmaster) are based on a patented design by Peregrine and utilize the pneumatic force of compressed air to allow their bullets to expand.
• The Bushmaster and Plainsmaster both expand to form complete mushrooms, thereby retaining more than 90% of their weight, most often only losing the weight of the yellow copper plunger (weighing only approximately one grain).
• Peregrine’s range of bullets consist of diagonally shaped ridges along the body of the bullet. The outer limits of the Peregrine bullets are, additionally, cut 5 micron from the groove size of the barrel. These features are beneficial for the following reasons: reduced bearing surface (of 50% or more) is achieved, reduced friction and pressure in the barrel is achieved, the design secures reduced temperature build-up, barrel life on the rifle is increased, a higher muzzle velocity is achieved, brass case damage is completely eliminated and reduced copper fowling in rifle barrels is achieved. It is furthermore noted that obturation occurs on the rear of the bullet’s boat tail in old, worn barrels and no gas blow occurs in these older barrels as a result of the tight machining tolerances achieved on the bullets.
• Peregrine bullets are extremely diverse. The fact that they are “velocity insensitive” allows for the hunter to utilize the same hunting rifle over a variety of distances, for a variety of targets at a variety of velocities, all to the same end. When further taking into consideration the bullet’s ability to retain its weight and mass, to expand fully to a mushroom and to leave very limited meat damage, it is no wonder that this bullet is considered to be the best in the world.
• Peregrine utilises a soft, almost pure copper for its bullets, thereby ensuring decreased copper fowling of the barrel, as well as decreased pressure and temperature increases in the barrel.
The Peregrine range, in short, consists of the following bullets:
• VRG-1 is a round-nosed solid brass bullet designed for the purpose of big game hunting.
• VRG-2 is a round-nosed solid red copper bullet that can either be utilised as a load development or practice bullet for the VRG-3 (as it is a more cost effective bullet than the VRG-3, but consists of the same ballistic properties) or as a double rifle hunting bullet.
• VRG-3 (The Bushmaster) is a round-nosed red copper bullet with a yellow copper plunger, designed to be effective up to the 330 yard mark, especially in thickets and denser environments.
• VRG-4 is a solid red copper bullet with a Spitzer design, a high ballistic coefficient, a level trajectory and high efficiency up to the 650 yard range. This bullet can either be utilized for competition shooting, or as a practice or load development companion to the VRG-5, as it consists of the same ballistic properties, despite its slightly different length.
• VRG-5 (The Plainsmaster) is a solid red copper bullet with a Spitzer design and a yellow copper plunger that is ideal for hunting in open areas and over longer ranges. Its high ballistic coefficient and flat trajectory makes this bullet a favourite amongst hunters.
• VRG-6 is a solid red copper bullet for use in hand guns. This bullet is especially effective in silhouette shooting and is a favourite amongst competition shooters.
• The Rangemaster is Peregrine’s extreme long range bullet. This solid red copper bullet can reliably reach targets beyond the 650 yard mark, has an extremely high ballistic coefficient and a very low trajectory.
The Peregrine brand has already established itself as the most technologically advanced bullet on the market. Its performance speaks for itself. Anyone and everyone who has used the bullet for hunting, agrees that no other bullet can compare or achieve the results obtained by the Peregrine design. With a production capacity of 150 000 bullets per month, Peregrine has not only taken the bullet market by storm, but has also set the hunting world alight with its innovative design and world class quality bullet. With Peregrine Bullets by your side, hunting will never be the same again.
