The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC), formed in 1997, is a statutory public entity with the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) as its executive authority.
The institution is subject to a complex governance framework that includes the NAC Act (1997) and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) amongst others.
The NAC is governed by a Council whose members are appointed by the Minister of Arts and Culture after a process of public nominations. The current Council was appointed in August 2006 and was inaugurated in September 2006.
