Short History

Mogallywood countryside Brew Pub and micro brewery. In 2007 Roeks and Lauran Griessel took the task on to renovate the original 1902 farmhouse on the farm Modderspruit. With the foundations moving, parts of the house stared to fall away. At the time it seemed the right thing to do, how can one let the old house just fade away or even flatten it. In retrospect, it would have been better just to flatten it. Soon after the project started it was clear that the old house was not going to be a house any more. The inside walls just collapsed, there were no ceilings left and the roof was falling in. While trying to fix the roof, heavy rain during one night washed the mud walls away and at that stage it was clear that the whole house must change its face. A thatched structure was erected over the house to protect the walls, all plaster was removed in and out side and the mud walls covered with mesh wire and new plaster. When it was time to redo the floor, it was discovered that the original floor only had 3cm cement. After reinforcements and a slate floor, the doorways became very low and till today one must duck. Today the old house structure is strong, but inside you will not find visible remains of the old house, but rather a cosy and well fitted bar and restaurant.
