More about Mikon Farming

Mikon Farming is a family owned business which was started by Greg Anderson in 1986 and was later joined by his son Geoffrey Anderson in 1997. The farm was started on a small scale production of 13 000 chickens per week, and due to the demand for our quality product, our production has grown to 45 000 chickens per week.

Our farm is perfectly situated in the Mpumalanga mountains of the Sudwala valley. This location ensures that we are isolated from any other farms, which may pose a health risk in the spread of poultry diseases. Our sub-tropical climate is the perfect condition for rearing chicks, with warm summers and moderate winters.

Our broiler houses have open sides, which means our chickens breath the cleanest, freshest mountain air. They have constant daylight from the sun, with no artificial lighting, to ensure they rest well & grow the way nature intended. The drinking water in our broiler houses is pure spring water, caught at the source.

We make use of the best feeds, which are 100% hormone free. All vaccines and medication is prescribed and used in such a way, to ensure that there is no build up of resistance to any pathogens.

Our day old chicks are supplied by a hatchery in Piet Retief, which breed their own, independent, 100% South African breed of chicken. All houses are cleaned, disinfected, and prepared ready for their arrival. The chickens will remain in a specific, comfortable, cosy house for the remainder of their lives, to ensure that they aren’t disrupted and stressed. Our abattoir and broiler houses are based on the same property, which means transfers between are short, humane and stress-free.

We are not a fully automated abattoir and do a lot of the processing by hand, as there is attention to detail which machinery won’t achieve. We also believe in supporting people with job opportunities and employ roughly 150 staff.

Greg and Geoff’s combined 45 years of experience in the chicken industry will guarantee you the best quality, at an affordable price.
