Meat Junction is a pioneering African traditional restaurant and take-away brand inspired by the African tradition of bringing people together around a fire in the townships to share grilled meat known as 'braai' in the Southern African colloquially referred to as 'shisanyama' (which literally means 'to burn the meat' in IsiZulu) or 'nyama choma' in East Africa and 'barbeque' in other parts of the world. In 1997, after a great night out, Mandla Zulu and his friends craved shisanyama- the traditional African 'braai'. After searching in vain for a place and meat that met their requirements, the idea of Meat Junction crossed his mind. Together with his partner Philile Zulu, they started imagining how to bring the traditional concept of a 'shisanyama' to the high street. After extensive contemplation and research, Meat Junction was born in 2000.
