About Florida Islamic Development Trust
The Trust was established in 2001 to co-ordinate efforts to establish an Islamic centre including a masjid for the growing number of Muslims of Florida (a suburb in Roodepoort, Johannesburg) and surrounding areas. Since then there are about 1000 Muslim families in Florida and its surrounds including Maraisburg, Florida Glen, Florida Hills, Florida Cliff, Discovery, Unified ...
With the steady increase of Muslims in the area, the 3 jamaat khanas that have already been established, have proven to be wholly inadequate (overflowing every jumu’ah). The Trust has met with the committees of these jamaat khanas and has secured their support as well as the masjid committee of Bosmond and others.
The proposed centre will promote the religious, social, spiritual and educational advancement of the Muslim community, especially the youth. It will also provide the fulfilment of Islamic needs such as burial, madrassah, library etc. The masjid will be built with space for women to make salah.
But in order to begin the plans for the centre and its construction, the Trust will first have to secure the land. At present all its activities are focussed on raising the R1,2 million needed for buying the property.
