Little Lights Pre School

Little Lights Pre School was founded in 2002 by Vauneen Cox, an elder's wife at Red Point Church and a trained and experienced teacher. With great anticipation, we officially opened our doors in January 2003 with 17 children. Classes were held in the Tots Section of Red Point Church Main building, and the facilities were much smaller than they are today! It was an exciting 1st year and we grew to 27 precious kiddies by the 2nd year (2004).

In 2005 the word was out and our numbers reached 40 children (with a waiting list) WOW! God is faithful!


May 2005 Shaun and Vauneen relocated to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and sadly Vauneen had to say her goodbyes, after being principal for 3 years.

Lynette Joyce was asked to take over as Head of little Lights. The beginning of a new and exciting season in her life, and in the School's life!

By 2006, there were so many enquiries into the school and Lynette made an application to increase our enrolments to 80.

Since then we have had a maximum 70 children enrolled at Little Lights Pre School. Over the following few years, the vision of turning the old farmhouse on the Red Point Church grounds into the new premises for this growing Pre School became a reality. A bigger play ground, more classrooms, better ablutions(suitable for small children) were some of the new exciting additions. Children from areas outside of Pinetown were now attending Little Lights, as it had grown so much and was seen as a warm, happy and nurturing environment, offering stimulation and an excellent foundation phase education for children from 3 years to Grade 0.

Teachers, carers, aftercarers have come and gone, all contributing to the home from home atmosphere that Little Lights is famous for. We presently have 5 teachers, (Kethiwe, Tash, Lisa, Shelly and Nosipho), Lynette (Principal), Manon and Amy (Volunteer helpers) and Kim (Aftercare Granny) on staff, as well as Thandi, who assists with cleaning, and Patrick who along with his team, is responsible for the maintenance of the grounds. George, employed by Red Point to take care of maintenance is also regularly adding and improving the facilities offered. And last but not least, granny Pammie, who has a special fondness for the children of Little Lights, has been a shining light herself, sponsoring awnings, playground equipment and prizes for our Raffle Competitions, her generosity has helped Little Lights so much over the years, and she is deeply loved by all the Little Lights whom she in turn is so fond of.

2011 saw even more big improvements! Funds were raised by the parents, enabling air conditioners to be installed in all 4 of the classrooms. A new class for 2-3yr olds was added, and more awnings and shade cloth covering the playgrounds were installed. A new jungle gym was installed in the front of the school, allowing better use of the ample play space we are privileged to enjoy. The Imagination Station classroom was also transformed and more Fantasy Play for the kiddies was the focus of this venture.

2012 has seen a tarred bicycle track laid out under the trees, adding a completely new dimension to play time! Also an experienced Occupational Therapist, Chantal Campbell now operates from Little Lights on Tuesdays.

We only have 10 spaces available for 2013 and we have not even had our "Open day" this year so that's a good sign that we're doing something right!

This year we celebrate 10 years of Little LIghts and are planning a 10 year celebration with past pupils and families at the end of the year.

In just 10 years, Little Lights has grown from strength to strength. We look forward to many more years watching our Pre School grow.
