More about Linex Yamaha

When you think of Linex Yamaha it conjures up images of the legendary showroom that now exists on Hans Strydom Drive in Randburg. The truth of the matter is that just over thirty years ago it was merely a dream of Danny Mulder's that was brought to fruition by sheer determination, guts and a burning passion for bikes, boats and anything else that was motor driven.

Danny's father owned a BP garage and a second hand car dealership on 63 Hans Strydom Drive, Linden Extension. The name of the used car dealership was called Linex Motors, which was derived from Linden Extension. Danny's dad provided the premises for Danny to start the business, this did not mean that Danny was in for an easy ride. (Pardon the pun).

Being the man that Danny is, the start of his Yamaha dream was more important than his own set of wheels at the time, a Honda CB750, so he sold it and became a Yamaha dealer using the money from the motorcycle to buy stock. This was to prove to be a good decision because it wasn't long and Linex Yamaha had made it's first sale...an RD400...to his dad!

Linex has come very far since their modest start in 1977. They started out with only one staff member, Danny the salesman, bookkeeper and mechanic. Assembling new bikes and servicing them and selling parts and accessories.

The first year of business was successful by anyone's standards, allowing the bike side of the shop to grow and start taking on a decent amount of stock. In 1979 Linex was in the top 15 dealers in the country and Danny won his first sales incentive trip to South America with Yamaha.

The business was finally as Danny had visualized and hoped it would be and even opened a marine division in 1981.

In 1992 Linex earned their first overall Yamaha Dealer of The Year award. Another milestone that marked Danny`s success was moving into Linex`s new premises (the one that we all know in Hans Strydom Drive today) in 1995

Linex was always at the forefront of promotions and remained a full range stocking dealer even when most dealers de-stocked and went over to commercial sales in the middle and late 90's.

Linex was the first dealer to do track schools with Dirk du Plooy at Swartkops and at the then Welkom race track.

When Linex moved into those new premises in Strydompark Danny raised the bar in the motorcycle industry and set the standard that all motorcycle businesses had to strive to achieve in terms of presentation and presence. It was a revolution in the motorcycle industry. John Robertson (MD of Yamaha SA at the time) acclaimed it as being "the best and biggest motorcycle shop in the whole of Africa." Since then Linex have been the top selling Yamaha dealer every year in the country.

After many years in the business, in 1996 Danny decided to move to Cape Town and opened the second branch of Linex which he since sold, in 2003.

Linex Yamaha now employs a staff compliment of sixty five people and sells approximately 1800 units a year: Motorcycles, Outboard Engines, Waverunners, Yamaha Star Cruisers, Quads, MX Bikes etc. A One-Stop Motorcycle & Marine venue offering comprehensive services ranging from Financing & Insurance, Bike & Boating Accessories as well as Marine & Motorcycle Workshops. All our Pre-owned Bikes, Boats & Jetskis are checked in our fully equipped Workshops before reaching our showroom floor to ensure quality. After 30 Years in Business, and rated top Yamaha Dealer for 16 years in a row, Linex Yamaha has the experience to give our customers quality products, expert advice and a smooth transaction.

Not bad for a small shop started at a second hand used car dealership!
