More about Lew Geffen Sotheby's International Realty - Kommetjie

Kommetjie is situated in the far south between Noordhoek and Scarborough just before Cape Point, approximately 45mins from Cape Town City centre and the Airport. This unspoilt, little seaside village is nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Slangkop Mountains. The name Kommetjie means "little basin" derived from the natural basin on the coastline affectionately known today as "the Kom", used by early settlers for trapping fish. Kommetjie has a rural appeal with it's beginnings dating back to the 1900's when the first beach homes were built and still stand today, now a commuter village with many larger and more contemporary homes with many families happy to travel the 35kms in and out of the city centre in exchange for the peaceful lifestyle.

Kommetjie is home to world renowned legendary Long Beach, the scene of many premier national and international surfing competitions. Kommetjie is also famed for it's excellent Crayfishing, Bird Life (featuring in the Cape Bird Route) and home to the tallest cast-iron Lighthouse in Southern Africa, the Slangkop Lighthouse. The 5,5km of unspoilt white sandy beach is popular for walking dogs and horse riding.

Kommetjie is a totally self-sufficient village with restaurants, a local shop, post office, pharmacy, primary school, library, to name but a few amenities. Longbeach Mall Shopping Centre is just 5km's away, providing all other necessary shopping facilities. Other attractions include Imhoff's Farm with its converted farm buildings offering craft shops, restaurants, bakery, locally made cheeses, and camel rides. A premier site for birdwatching and it forms part of the Fynbos belt which boasts the highest number of plants per square kilometre.

Leisurely walks on the beach, strolls on the Slangkop mountain and soaking up the long summer sunsets are enjoyed by young and old. A place where both children and adults are able to ride bikes and skate board, walk to the beach and enjoy a freedom seldom found these days.

Kommetjie residential properties start at around R1 million, the closer one gets to the beach or a home with a beautiful view, the higher the prices, with premier beachfront properties selling for in excess of R7m. The area covers suburban family homes, holiday cottages, rustic houses, beach houses, exclusive properties and boasts in the region of 55 self catering accommodation options.

The beauty lies in the peaceful natural environment coupled with the fact that you can walk to the beach from anywhere in Kommetjie.
