More about Lady Grey Cottage

Built in 1865 this gem of a home offers accommodation for up to 4 people (plus 1 child on a couch). R650 per night for the cottage for two people sharing. R75 per person sharing thereafter.

The heritage cottage consists of 2 bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed, and the other with two single beds. It has a sitting area (lounge and dining room) with a lovely big fireplace, a kitchen inclusive of an original Dover Stove for those chilly winter days and nights, and a bathroom with shower. The kitchen leads out on to a beautiful patio area with a table that seats 12 as well as a braai area. The front door opens out on to a large garden with loads of space to play, chat, relax, read...whatever takes your fancy.

McGregor is a small village in the mountains of the Western Cape, South Africa. It is roughly 150 km east of Cape Town, located in the Breede River Winelands.

The village was established in 1861 and was originally called Lady Grey. It was renamed in 1905 in honour of Rev. Andrew McGregor, who had been the Dutch Reformed Church minister of the Robertson District for forty years.

The village has become somewhat of a magnet for alternative lifestyles. It is home to a dynamic community of artists, poets and musicians with a number of galleries to boot, while the local Waldorf school has over 160 children. The village is part of the broader wine route of the Western Cape and is situated at one end of the popular Boesmanskloof Trail to the town of Greyton.

2 hours drive outside of Cape Town, McGregor is a distinctive, quaint village in the Langeberg region. Both eccentric and therapeutic, it provides a place to unwind, step back in time and relax. There are a number of restaurants to suite every pocket but no fast food outlets.

The village is small enough to navigate on foot. If you want to experience the neighbouring wine farms, donkey sanctuary, and any other attractions in the Langeberg region, it would be wise to have a car.

Please note that all grey water empties into the garden.
