Kuthumba Eco-Village and Forest Reserve

The land for Kuthumba was purchased in 1993. On the edge of a vast and spectacular National Park of indigenous forest, the land seemed perfect for the dearly held intention of building a health and educational retreat centre with a community of landstewards who would own their own subdivided plots within the Motherland. The rezoning and subdivision to this end was achieved in 1997 and the first people, dedicated to the growth of understanding around what it means to live in a sensitive environment with an awareness of sustainable ethics, took up residence. Pioneering on every front began. Buildings with a focus on green principles and alternative systems of all kinds were explored. There were great successes and disappointing mistakes, happy times and challenging passages too. Through it all peak Formosa stood as a silent witness to the human play. The people of Kuthumba were and remain a robust bunch of strong spirited individuals who laugh and cry with a passion for their wild and beautiful home.
