A beautifully renovated school building is the home to the exhibition of Roger Young’s sensitive and eloquent photographs and unique, handcrafted furniture of solid wood. He has produced a fine selection of postcards of the environment. There is also a coffee shop serving light refreshments, great coffee and biscotti, on a stoep with a view of an exquisite landscape, surrounded by a beautiful garden.
We also offer photographic workshops of 3/5/7 x day duration.
"I have been making original handcrafted furniture for thirty-eight years. These pieces are hand carved using hard woods. Local and international clients have commissioned most pieces. I have also had numerous exhibitions in South Africa. I recently moved from Cape Town for the adventure of the Klein Karoo.
For the past two and a half years, I have been restoring and renovating two buildings- an old school and a house. The school is now my Workshop and Gallery. An attached apartment and artists’ studio is available to rent to artists who would be interested in using Kruisrivier as a base from which to produce a body of work.
The area lends itself to photography and has been the inspiration for many of the photographs displayed in the Gallery. I am now able to explore more free-hand sculpture in wood and steel.
The Gallery was a very successful venue at the Klein Karoo Kunste Fees 2009 and 2010." - Roger Young
