KHANYENI – Your Home Away From Home

Khanyeni means Place of Light and as its name implies it may well be the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ for some of our more elderly residents.

Tex and Anita Turton have purchased this magnificent 4,5 hectare property in Himeville, overlooking Fredy’s dam with the sole purpose of turning it into a residential home for those of us who are now in need of a little more TLC than our generous community is able to offer.

With 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms (3 en-suite) in the main house and another two-bedroom cottage on site, residents will be able to furnish their ample-sized bedrooms with some of their comforts of home and then join other like-minded folk in the communal dining room for meals or stroll the beautiful grounds with views to the Drakensberg mountains, knowing that their everyday needs are being met in safety and comfort.

Staffing includes a Housekeeper, who will be responsible for meal preparation, cleaning of rooms and maintenance of the home as well as a full-time, qualified Nursing Sister/Administrator who will manage the caregiver staff supplied by Sani Carers, through the Eldercare HWSeta accredited caregiver training programme.

When we purchased the property earlier this year, we envisaged a residential home where aged family members remain close to their loved ones. A local care home has always been talked about and now Khanyeni is being realised. ‘

Monthly costs for a private room (single occupancy) will include all meals, DSTV, on-site nursing sister, emergency medical response and armed response. Couples are most welcome and monthly fees per person sharing would be adjusted accordingly.

Arrangements are underway to also include a single pet option per resident, the additional options of weekly shopping trips to the Underberg village and assistance with visits to medical practitioners both locally and in Pietermaritzburg on a regular basis.

Talking about the future, we have intimated that we would like to build onto the frail care centre and possibly add some stand alone cottages for those residents who want the safety and security that a residential estate affords but are no longer able to cook or clean for themselves.

‘Right now we are able to take elderly residents whether mobile or semi-mobile and would certainly consider persons in the very early stages of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. The resident Nursing Sister would, however, need to be sure that Khanyeni has the requisite staff on board to offer the level of care these residents would need.’

Occupation is envisaged 1 December 2015. Need more information? Want to make a booking?
