Khafo is an extract from the surname Makhafola. In our tradition, our surname Makhafola has a representation of Elephant as a supreme icon and symbol of power.

Khafo Tours and Transport Services is named with the sense of inspiration and believe that the symbol and token of an elephant which is an amazing creature that has been respected, revered and even worshiped. As such the name is meant to be influential sense and spirit to drive the company with the concept of respect, sustainability, adaptation, symbiotic and profitability. It was created with the supreme elephant icon that symbolize immortal legacy that will exist forever.

1. Introduction

Khafo Tours and Transport Services Close Corporation was founded by Matsemela Makhafola in 2005 trading anonymously and registered with the Department of Trade and Industry in 2007.

The decision to choose the transportation business was based on the study we did on the research and survey made by the department of transport in conjunction with Statistics South Africa.

The National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) of 2003 was a Department of Transport (DoT) initiative focused mainly on the Commuter transportation in South Africa. The DoT was assisted by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) who designed the survey sample and executed the fieldwork. The household surveys were undertaken in May and June, 2003.

The result of this survey can be obtained on this website http://www.transport.gov.za. The survey depicts exactly the problem of the public transport in South Africa. We have therefore embarked in the journey to assist the government in achieving its goal of minimizing the transportation shortage by formalizing and going private in this sector focusing at the beginning in the scholar transportation.

We presently exist in Gauteng but our service is extended country wide within the South African borders.

7. Company Profile

Khafo Tours and Transport Services is a 100% black owned company formed on an objective to provide transport services exclusively for school children with the future focus to grow in the other areas of transportation such airport transfer, metered taxi, event transportation, courier and trucking transport market. The business started operations with 1 minibus that meet the safety requirement as per the Department of Transport publications on the 31 July March 2007.

8. Brief Description of Khafo Tours and Transport Services

Khafo Tours and Transport Services is a transportation service exclusively created to transport children to and from school, day care, after school activities, recreational programs, etc. Unlike a taxi service, Khafo Tours and Transport Services will provide transportation exclusively to children. All of our drivers will have a background check through JMPD for any infractions of the law. These drivers will possess a driver’s license with PDP, first Aid, CPR certificate and basic advance driving will be requirements in 2015. They also must genuinely care about the welfare of children.

Our Main Objectives
• To provide a safe, licensed transportation service for children at a reasonable price to parents.
• Enhance the business by becoming a trusted viable transportation source to parents and
• Children in Westrand area namely Strubensalley, Little Falls, Weltevreden Park, Ruimsig, Wilgeheuwel, Honeydew, Panorama and Allensnek
• Contract with areas, day care, pre-school and recreational services that do not provide transportation.
• Create jobs by hiring trained drivers and office staff as our business grows

9. Close Corporation Members and Employees

Cyprian Makhafola known as Bashi has been actively involved in transport operations for the past 6 years. Operated a metered taxi and more than half of this period was spent managing transport operations within taxi industry. His formal education includes a degree in Computer Science and other international IT certification and Project Management from Wits University and Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Wits Business School.

Tshipiwa Tshilume Known as Ben is a professional driver and administrator, he has experience on school transportation for 5 years as a driver and salesperson. He has experience with dealing with children of any ages and has extensive sales background.

Eva Makhafola, a nursery teacher by profession for over 6 years. Have passion for children and bring expertise of working with children and Parents. Have a certificate in Home Based Care and has an incomplete diploma in Child Education

10. Operations to date

Operations commenced on the 13 July 2007 starting with 21 children at Panorama Primary School. We have managed to sign in 36 children at the end of 2009 and by 2010 March the number of children rose to 70.

We are operating with two cars, with two permanent drivers. They both oversee the daily operations and the overall transport administration. The owner oversees overall management of the company. With this direct input in daily operations, such as planning and vehicle availability, we have managed to maintain 100% on-time pick and delivery service to our customers.

11. Future goals

Khafo Tours and Transport Services is setting itself up to be a major player in the transport sector within RSA and therefore are eager to investigate new solutions in the transport sector.
