Karorado Nooitgedacht Stud

Karorado Nooitgedachter Stud was founded August 2013 after the acquisition of the bulk of Impendulo Stud's broodmares and foals. We follow a strict breeding programme wereby mares and stallion pairings are done to suit the individual horses. We keep to the adage that there is no such thing as a perfect stallion to suit all mares, but rather a perfect match between stallion and mare. We will be focused on bettering the breed rather than producing many horses for sale.

The broodmares and foals are kept as naturally as possible, barefoot trimmed and schooled using a mixture of natural horsemanship techniques and classical dressage elements. All horses, including broodmares need to be schooled up to pre-elementary level before she will be bred. Foals are weaned at 6-9 months depending on the dam and foal's physical and mental condition. After weaning they are allowed to function as a herd learning social skills and respect from the older horses.

Because the stud is still very young there will be horses that does not fit into our vision, but suitable homes and disciplines will be allocated to these individuals. Our aim is to produce an excellent riding horse, sound in body and mind with a temperament to die for and athletic ability. Nooities are suited to the South African climate because they have been developed in South Africa for South Africans. Competitively Nooities have held their own in the Showring, Endurance track, Show jumping and dressage against all different breeds. They are the epitome of universal, no matter the discipline. Because of their exceptional temperaments they tend to suit inexperienced or junior riders very well, but there is no reason why the adult market should look any further. The Nooitie breeding standards allow for 14hh to 16hh horses and here at Karorado we want to breed for the adult market as well. Humans have been getting taller over the past 100 years and to be realistic we want riders to match their horses.

Looking to the future Karorado Stud would like to stay abrest with new technological and scientific advancements. We play an active role in creating genetic sustainability by using scientific methods of diversifying the genetic pool. That means in short to preserve the old pure lines and in accordance with the Nooitgedachter Association's guidelines infuse new genetic material to diversify and improve the genetic pool. With this in mind, we have been very fortunate to have started our Iberian project December2016 with the use of the PRE Andalusian stallion, Calvero Esclavo FM. Three of our top mares were selected for the first covering and the Nooitgedacht x PRE Andalusian foals will be born November2017. The crosses resulting from this project will be eligible to be registered as either Appendix or Sport Nooitgedachts. And the ones that do not make the cut to be used further in the breeding programme will be made available to the horse riding public as excellent riding horses.

Unbacked, backed or schooled horses will be for sale from time to time. Both our stallions (Dwasdouw Vlam and Impendulo Vonk) have passed their Inspections with Merits (meaning over 85%) and have been judged by internation judge, Rick van Miert. They went on to have the 1rst and 5th highest scores on the day for the Open Breeds, beating some stiff imported competition. Top quality stallions.

Lastly, in tradition with our Afrikaans heritage, the Nooitie is a family horse. Suitable for all members of the family and they become part of the family very easily. They can do farmwork and show on the weekends, be competitive mounts or just be a happy hack. Versatility embodied.
