Karoo Gariep Hippo Conservancy

Come visit the Karoo Gariep Hippo Conservancy with New Holme, Mieliefontein and Wolmado Guest Farms providing four star accommodations. Come experience and breathe the Karoo. The ideal halfway destination between Cape Town and Johannesburg. The on-site Seekoei River Restaurant at New Holme is known for its 3 coursed buffet dinners, an experience by itself and has a 400 bottle underground wine cellar.

The farm New Holme also makes a very romantic venue for weddings function and conferences. The Karoo Gariep Conservancy is also home to the only hippo family in the Northern Cape. They have been reintroduced by PC Ferreira in 2005 after the last once were shot out over 200 years ago. We try to keep guest out of their rooms for as long as possible and focus on various outdoor activities.

We start the day with an early morning birding drive and after breakfast we take you on a 2 hour “Bushman etching “walk. Late afternoon we go for a sun downer at the hippo pool and after dinner you have the choice of stargazing from our star deck ore a night drive. Kids love the donkey card and horse rids at four in the afternoon and while the farm dam is full they get great pleasure from the boat trip.

We offer a 3 day mountain bike tour from Colesberg to New Bethesda all along the Seekoei valley meander, and a one night out horse trail where you sleep out in the veldt under the stars, with your horse and a big bond fire to keep you warm.
