Kabouterland Stellenbosch

I started Kabouterland in 1990 from my house in Die Boord, Stellenbosch. My first two sons were three years and nine months respectively. At that stage I decided to go back to work but was shocked at the quality of care that was available for children.

This is when I decided to start my own day care and took in another 6 children. Within three years it grew to a total of 70 children and 10 staff members. The school occupied my whole house except one bedroom, which my whole family used.

During this period I had a dream in which I received a command to build a school. I clearly saw the plot in my dream next to a Trek Garage. The following day I went out in search of this specific place. Since the plot belonged to Engen I tried to purchase the land for 5 years, which finally happened in 1996. With the rezoning of the plot done and a big bond later, we moved in during 1997. We rapidly grew to our maximum capacity. Currently we also have an aftercare facility. Today we have more than 40 members of staff.
