CODE OF CONDUCT

Our Business Ethics

1. GOD the Trinity is the Master of our Company, The Bible is our Business guide and Prayer is the source of our lives.

2. Every talent that we have received from GOD is lived out in our daily services. We praise Him for all the success we achieve in our labour.

3. All employees in positions of power have been appointed
by GOD, and we respect and obey everything that is
justified by the Scriptures.

4. To be able to work, is by the GRACE OF GOD, and we obey His Commandments at our place of work.

5. Being part of His Creation, people should be respected and
treated as we ourselves would like to be treated. GOD expects from us that wages and discipline will be of a fair and consistent nature.

6. Because we keep GOD’S creation in trust, our business activities should not destroy His craftsmanship.

7. Only essential service is delivered on Sundays.

8. Scriptural, it is justified to make a profit, provided it is honest, ethical and legal. GOD expects that we should give unto Caesar what is due to him, and to give onto GOD what
is due to Him.

9. Although we will never be able to reach GOD’S standards,
we will always strive to obey His commandments.

10. Promotion is based on ability and merit, but above all the
acceptance and living by this code of business.

11. Saving for a harvest, we plant what we expect to reap.

History

The International Funeral Society opened it’s first doors to the public on 23 August 1993. It started as a business that sold policies with a promise of the best funeral service.

After two years of market research we realized that there was still a demand for traditional funeral-services. According to research a more complex need existed than the funeral-undertakers were supplying at that time. This resulted in the formulation of a funeral plan designed for P.D.I. (Previously Disadvantaged Individuals).

Due to this unique plan, we tried to register the Society under the Society Act. It seemed, however, that this act had already been scrapped in 1962, which resulted that the original registration took place in the former Bophuthatswana. In co-operation with CCB (Capital Computer Bureau) we were requested to register with the Department of Finance to enable us to obtain a letter of recommendation which would allow us stop-order facilities from all Government Departments.

With the incorporation of Bophuthatswana into the RSA, we had to re-apply for stop-order facilities, with proof of the necessary underwriting. Our underwriters SAFRICAN, supplied us with the required documentation.

During this time, laws affecting the Insurance Industry have changed considerably. Such legislation caused changes and even periods of uncertainty, but we strive to comply with each new requirement.

Notwithstanding the changes, The International Funeral Society opened it’s first mortuary in 1995. Since then several other branches were opened, not only serving P.D.I. clients, but every language, nation and race group.

Amidst an uncertain economy and extreme competition, The International Funeral Society and International Funeral Undertakers is expanding at a steady rate.
