Ikamva Labantwana

Ikamva Labantwana Bethu (ILB) creates educational opportunities for the most deserving children from Crossroads township. It is the only independent educational programme currently operating in Crossroads, a community with a high rate of gangsterism, crime, and drug abuse. ILB believes that the key to breaking this cycle of crime and poverty is access to quality education to reach university and employment.

Ikamva Labantwana Bethu caters to learners from grades 4-7 by providing them with after-school homework sessions, Saturday tutoring sessions, mentoring, and winter/summer school programmes. The organisation is staffed by a team of dedicated individuals and tutors from different universities around the Western Cape who are focused on improving learners’ academic performance and acting as role models.

ILB creates confident and driven learners who serve as positive examples amongst the young citizens of Crossroads. The programme is fostering a new generation of leaders who are positively transforming their community.

ILB was founded by Siviwe Dlukwana, who was born and raised in Crossroads. Unlike most of his peers, Siviwe was able to attend a secondary school for high-performing learners. The opportunity singlehandedly changed the trajectory of his life. Out of the 250 learners Siviwe attended primary school with he was one of two to make it to university.

Siviwe started ILB so that all children in Crossroads can have access to quality education and job opportunities. Siviwe believes that together, we can positively impact ourselves, each other, our community, and our country.
