Huntersvlei Sussex

Huntersvlei Sussex have been breeding Sussex since 1945 and is one of the oldest Sussex Studs in the country.

The stud was started by Mr. J.R. Evans who has been involved with the Sussex Society of South Africa since 1933, when he completed his junior judging course. In 1959 He became president of the Sussex Society of South Africa and a member of SA Studbook. In 1971 Huntersvlei Sussex started participating in performance testing through SA Studbook. He also served a term as President of SA Studbook

After Mr. Rhys Evans passed away, his son, Anthony Evans took over. He had an excellent eye and ability to breed only the best. He took Huntersvlei Sussex and the Sussex breed in general to new heights. He followed in his fathers footsteps to become President of the Sussex Society of South Africa and SA Studbook.

Huntersvlei Sussex was the first Sussex stud in the country to import three new polled Sussex bloodlines from the United Kingdom, where the Sussex breed originated. We currently have bloodlines available from the UK, Australia and established South African lines which we have recorded since 1945. We offer both polled and horned animals.

Mr. Anthony Evans sadly passed away last year, only days after one of the bulls he bred sold for the new SA record price of R200 000. His son, David Evans now follows in his fathers footsteps.
