Herold Meander aims to protect the heritage of the area, conserve the surrounding environment, creating sustainable jobs and boosting local tourism by enhancing Local Economic Development, Agriculture, Arts & Culture, Eco & Agri tourism and Agri processing. It can be accessed via the scenic and historic Montagu Pass or via the tourist Cape Route 62.
The following will be established as Phase 1 of the Herold Meander project:
* Productive use of agricultural land;
* Existing shop with Post Office;
* Coffee shop with rooster koek;
* Touch farming and kiddies play area;
* Arts & craft;
* Farm stall;
* Weaving shop;
* Painting and pottery;
* Nursery;
* Annual Herold Meander Farm Festival;
* Hosting of other festivals with camping facilities;
* Farmers market;
* Picnic and braai spots around dam and along Doorn River;
* Paddling and water activities on the farm dam;
* Hiking and bird watching;
* Fishing in farm dams (only catch and release);
* Cycling and mountain biking; and
* Horse/donkey/tractor riding.
Phase 2 of Herold Meander will include the following subject to all approvals:
* Farm housing;
* Multi-purpose community centre;
* Agri Park for agri processing;
* Heritage centre;
* Touch farming centre;
* Conference and wedding facilities; and
* Affordable and rental accommodation.
