HELP : Homework - Enrichment - Lifeskills - Programme

HELP (Homework Enrichment Life Skills Program) was created
by Anna-Marie - a mother, who albeit not a teacher, is passionate
about education: especially education for those less fortunate than
her child. Growing more and more concerned about the rapidly
declining education level which affects all levels of South African
society and of course the future of South Africa, Anna-Marie felt
that it was time to take action.

After volunteering at Capricorn Primary School for a couple of
months, she realized that the assistance the children are
receiving for 6 months, 1 hour per week, is far from satisfactory.
Anna-Marie noticed that the children have no self-esteem and definitely no confidence. Morale was low.

She “designed” a program for the children based on her experience with the above elements but most importantly, encouraging the children to trust her – every time reverting back to “how would I like to be treated” and making sure that not yet another adult is letting them down. Based on the principle that the children are little people with their own identity, the holistic approach becomes more and more apparent.

In March 2011 the proposal was submitted to the school, the Board of Educators and to some members of the Western Cape Education Department - the green light was given and an afternoon classroom was made available soon after HELP received approval from these authorities.
