HANDS that rock the Cradle

Hands That Rock The Cradle is a beneficiation program for communities that reside in and around the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site in Maropeng. It is the home to a treasure trove of fossils from the earliest humans who lived four million years ago. The Cradle of Humankind is one of eight World Heritage Sites in South Africa, and the only one in Gauteng Province.

Hands That Rock The Cradle is an on-site store as well as the sales and marketing point representing 30 crafters specializing in beadwork, fabric silk screen printing, ceramics, embroidery, replicas of artifacts, molding, casting, wire and wood work. Taking inspiration from their unique location and the natural surrounding landscape, these talented crafters create handmade pieces that are symbolic of the heritage site for local and international markets. Additionally, the crafters can customize products.
