Hand in Hand Creatives

HHC, founded in September 2011 and based in Muizenberg, is an organization of residents with the common vision for the empowerment of youth from nearby communities with limited resources and a lack of creative education, through the creative arts. The organisation asserts that inter-community dialogue and improving relationships between Muizenberg and neighboring communities, by offering young people an introduction and education in the arts, is integral in addressing long term social development issues and security concerns. The enhancement of confidence, communication skills, and expressive abilities; empowering attributes; can be achieved through the creative arts. HHC believes that these qualities can encourage young people to instigate organic and positive change in their communities. Engagement with the creative arts can provide youth with uplifting ways of addressing themselves and their peers; and encourage an alternative social consciousness that fosters productive and healthy values.

HHC operates in the context of unequal and resource distinctive communities that are geographical neighbors, however, lack constructive and collaborative relationships. The artistic resources, facilitators, and facilities of Muizenberg are abundant whilst youth in neighboring communities have little or no contact to the arts and often find themselves without constructive ways of using their holidays and free time. HHC aims to facilitate the marriage of the abundance of skills and resources in the former community with the needs of the latter communities. HHC will co-operate with volunteer agencies and raise funds/receive donations for the furtherance of the organisation’s aims. By the facilitation of creative arts workshops, day-outings, and showcase festivals HHC will forward its’ goals for social communion and development through the creative arts.
